Recently I ranked the NY Times Games based on my enjoyment level. If you enjoy the mind-bending challenges of Vertex, but are looking for some free alternatives, you’re in luck! There are several games out there that offer similar spatial reasoning and geometric puzzle elements without the price tag. Here are 5 free games that Vertex fans should check out:
- Euclidea – This browser-based game focuses on geometric construction puzzles. Like Vertex, it challenges you to create specific shapes and solve spatial problems, but with a focus on classical geometry tools like a compass and straightedge. Link here.
- Hyperbolica – While not identical to Vertex, this free browser game explores non-Euclidean geometry in a 3D environment. It offers a unique twist on spatial puzzles that will appeal to fans of geometric challenges. This one used to be free. But now it’s mostly paid but I see you can download here for Free Version on Windows
- Freeform – Available on mobile devices, Freeform presents players with abstract 3D shapes that need to be manipulated and combined to match a target form. Its clean aesthetic and spatial reasoning challenges are reminiscent of Vertex.
- Interlocked – This free mobile game focuses on three-dimensional puzzles where you must disassemble interlocking shapes. While the gameplay differs from Vertex, it scratches a similar itch for spatial reasoning and geometric problem-solving.
- Slice & Dice Another mobile offering, Slice & Dice presents 3D geometric puzzles where you must cut shapes to create specific forms. Its focus on spatial manipulation and clean design will likely appeal to Vertex players.
